What does CPC mean?
CPC stands for cost per click. In campaign reporting, average CPC describes the average cost associated with each measured ad click.
Google Ads defines average CPC as the total cost of clicks divided by the total number of clicks. That is also the calculation used by ViralTranscript's CPC Calculator.
CPC formula
The formula is straightforward: total campaign cost divided by total clicks.
For example, if a campaign costs $600 and generates 2,000 measured clicks, divide 600 by 2,000. The average CPC is $0.30.
- CPC = total cost ÷ total clicks.
- $600 ÷ 2,000 clicks = $0.30 CPC.
- Use cost and clicks from the same campaign and reporting period.

CPC example with a different currency
The arithmetic does not depend on a particular currency. If you enter ₩300,000 of campaign cost and 1,500 clicks, the calculation is ₩300,000 divided by 1,500, producing ₩200 per click.
The calculator does not convert currencies. The result stays in the same currency as the cost value you enter.
Average CPC vs maximum CPC
Average CPC is a measured average based on cost and clicks. In advertising platforms, a maximum CPC bid can instead describe an amount you are willing to bid for a click. Those concepts should not be treated as interchangeable.
When you are calculating historical campaign performance from total cost and clicks, average CPC is the relevant calculation.
Does lower CPC always mean better performance?
Not by itself. CPC measures click cost. It does not tell you whether those clicks produced purchases, qualified leads or revenue.
Compare CPC only when the click definitions and reporting periods are consistent. For broader campaign analysis, you may also need metrics such as CPM, conversion measures or ROAS.
